National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 21 · Level 8 · #453 of 2238

National Indigenous Peoples Day honours the cultures, heritage and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada. It is an opportunity to encounter distinct communities through their own voices, art and traditions.
How it is celebrated: communities organise performances, exhibitions, storytelling and cultural gatherings. Powwows with dancing and drumming feature where they belong to local traditions, with hosts setting the guidance for visitors.
Established in 1996 as National Aboriginal Day, the observance received its current English name in 2017.
