Russian Interior Ministry Canine Units Day
June 21 · Level 8 · #509 of 2238
Russian Interior Ministry Canine Units Day honours handlers who work alongside service dogs. These partnerships help find missing people, detect dangerous substances and investigate crime, combining human training and judgement with a dog’s remarkable sense of smell.
How it is celebrated: units congratulate serving handlers and veterans, present awards and hold demonstrations. Dogs show their obedience skills and tackle search exercises.
Detection training often turns a search into a rewarding game: finding the target scent earns a favourite toy or another reward. That apparently effortless performance takes regular practice.
