World Rhino Day
September 22 · Level 7 · #717 of 2238
World Rhino Day celebrates all five rhino species and the people working to protect them. It draws attention to poaching, illegal horn trading and the loss of the wild places these animals depend on.
How it is celebrated: conservation groups and zoos host keeper talks, share updates from protected areas and raise money for rhino conservation. Online campaigns introduce individual animals and explain the damage caused by demand for their horns.
A rhino horn is made mainly of keratin, the protein found in human hair and nails. Unlike many other animal horns, it has no bony core.
