Hobbit Day
September 22 · Level 3 · #1673 of 2238
Hobbit Day brings Tolkien fans together for the birthday shared by Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. It celebrates Middle-earth's home-loving adventurers, whose fondness for comfort never quite keeps them out of a much bigger story.
How it is celebrated: fans revisit favourite chapters, watch the films and gather for costume parties. Generous meals are part of the fun, and some enthusiasts go barefoot in honour of the Shire's inhabitants.
At the opening of The Lord of the Rings, Bilbo turns 111 while Frodo turns 33—the age at which hobbits come of age.
