World Elephant Day
September 22 · Level 7 · #723 of 2238
World Elephant Day draws attention to the fate of elephants, which are threatened by poaching and the loss of their habitats.
How it is celebrated: conservation groups and zoos host talks and exhibitions, children draw elephants, and supporters raise money to rescue orphaned calves and protect reserves.
Elephants carry their young longer than any other land animal, with pregnancy lasting up to 22 months. The awareness day itself began in 2012 and is now observed in many countries.
