Baltic Unity Day
September 22 · Level 6 · #965 of 2238
Baltic Unity Day recalls the shared past and kindred cultures of the Baltic peoples of Lithuania and Latvia. It is linked to the Battle of Saule in 1236.
How it is celebrated: Lithuania and Latvia hold history talks, concerts, reenactments and gatherings that celebrate the heritage of the old Baltic tribes.
At the Battle of Saule, Samogitians and Semigallians defeated the army of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. After that defeat, the order was merged into the Teutonic Order in 1237.
