World Breastfeeding Week
August 1 · Level 6 · #936 of 2238

World Breastfeeding Week focuses on support for breastfeeding mothers and their families. It highlights how everyday help, access to knowledgeable support and workplace arrangements can affect a parent's ability to breastfeed.
How it is celebrated: health professionals and community organisations hold parent meetings, educational sessions and awareness campaigns. Activities address family support, staff training and environments that make feeding easier.
The first campaign took place in 1992. Its coordinator is the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, or WABA, with support from WHO and UNICEF.
