International Childfree Day
August 1 · Level 3 · #1763 of 2238

This day is for people who have deliberately chosen not to have children. The word childfree stresses that it is a free decision, unlike childless, which can suggest something missing.
How it is celebrated: people who share this choice meet for coffee or a walk, talk about it in online communities and swap experiences. Many simply spend the day on what they love, such as travel, hobbies or a long lie-in.
The term childfree took shape in English as a counterpart to childless, and the suffix does the work: free here means free of something, not deprived of it.
