National Currency Day in Kazakhstan
November 15 · Level 2 · #1847 of 2238

National Currency Day marks Kazakhstan's introduction of the tenge in 1993. Having its own money was an important step towards economic independence, and the occasion invites a fresh look at the notes and coins people use every day.
How it is celebrated: financial institutions organise commemorative events, currency displays and talks about the tenge's history. Finance professionals receive congratulations, while exhibitions explore banknote design and the features that help prevent counterfeiting.
The first tenge banknotes were printed in the United Kingdom. Kazakhstan established its own banknote factory after the currency had already entered circulation.
