International Day against Transnational Organized Crime
November 15 · Level 10 · #204 of 2238

This day shines a light on criminal networks that work across several countries at once, from human trafficking and arms and drug smuggling to money laundering. Its message is simple: such crime can only be beaten by countries working together.
How it is celebrated: the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and its partners publish reports and run awareness campaigns and discussions. Law enforcers, lawyers and civil society groups talk about stronger laws and better cooperation across borders.
The date is no accident: on 15 November 2000 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, known as the Palermo Convention.
