Russian Navy Caspian Flotilla Day
November 15 · Level 10 · #58 of 2238
Caspian Flotilla Day recognises the sailors, veterans and history of Russia's naval formation on the Caspian Sea. It also acknowledges the shore-based personnel whose work keeps its ships operating, linking today's crews with earlier generations of service members.
How it is celebrated: naval units hold ceremonial assemblies, present awards and arrange meetings with veterans. Remembrance events honour colleagues who died in service, while talks introduce younger sailors to the flotilla's past.
Despite its name, the Caspian Sea is the world's largest enclosed inland body of water, with no natural outlet to the ocean.
