King's Day in Belgium
November 15 · Level 1 · #2071 of 2238

King's Day, also known as the Dynasty Festival, honours the Belgian monarch and the royal family. It highlights the part the constitutional monarchy plays in the country.
How it is celebrated: a solemn Te Deum of thanksgiving is traditionally sung in the Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula in Brussels, with the royal family attending. Public buildings fly flags.
It is not a day off, because Belgium's actual national day falls on 21 July. The date of 15 November is tied to the feast of Saint Leopold, and the first two Belgian kings were both named Leopold.
