Sake Day in Japan

Sake Day celebrates Japan’s rice-based drink, the skill of its makers and the traditions of different brewing regions. It is a chance to explore a surprisingly wide range of aromas and flavours, along with the foods that complement them.

How it is celebrated: breweries offer tastings and tours, restaurants arrange food pairings, and festivals introduce regional varieties. Visitors learn how rice, water and brewing expertise influence the finished drink.

Although often called rice wine, sake uses a different process: koji converts rice starch into sugars while yeast turns those sugars into alcohol.
