World Understanding and Peace Day
February 23 · Level 3 · #1731 of 2238

Rotarians use the anniversary of their organisation's founding to remind everyone that friendship and shared projects help people from different countries understand one another. It is a day for Rotary clubs worldwide.
How it is celebrated: clubs hold meetings and celebratory dinners, welcome guests from abroad, launch service projects and tell their communities what they do.
The first Rotary club was founded in Chicago on 23 February 1905 by the lawyer Paul Harris and three friends. The name came from the early habit of rotating the meeting place among members' offices.
