International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day

A day to say thanks to the crunchy treats that make dogs wag their tails, and to the people who hand them out. It is an excuse to remember how many tricks a dog will learn for one small biscuit.

How it is celebrated: owners buy or bake biscuits, run little training sessions with tasty rewards and post photos of delighted pets online. Some drop treats off at animal shelters, too.

The first commercial dog biscuit is usually credited to James Spratt, an American who sold his recipe in London around 1860.
