Defender of the Fatherland Day in Kyrgyzstan
February 23 · Level 10 · #221 of 2238

Kyrgyzstan’s Defender of the Fatherland Day honours service members, veterans and those who defend the country. It also gives families a reason to remember relatives who served and share their stories.
How it is celebrated: wreath-laying ceremonies, formal gatherings and concerts mark the occasion. Military units congratulate their personnel, while greetings at home and work often extend to men with no military background.
The date comes from the Soviet military calendar. Independent Kyrgyzstan established its own armed forces in 1992, so the celebration’s calendar roots are older than the national military it now honours.
