World Penguin Day
April 25 · Level 3 · #1737 of 2238
World Penguin Day celebrates birds built for swimming rather than flying and draws attention to their conservation. Protecting penguins also means protecting the seas they feed in, where pollution, changing conditions and pressure on food supplies can threaten their survival.
How it is celebrated: zoos, aquariums and conservation groups offer talks, share stories about penguin life and raise money for protection projects.
Penguins are not all ice dwellers. Galápagos penguins live near the equator, and part of their range even extends into the Northern Hemisphere.
