World Malaria Day

World Malaria Day draws attention to a disease that remains deadly despite being preventable and treatable. It calls for sustained support so that protection, testing and treatment reach the people who need them.

How it is celebrated: health organizations and community groups run awareness campaigns, explain mosquito protection and raise support for malaria programmes.

Mosquitoes carry malaria, but they do not cause the infection themselves: parasites do. That distinction helps explain why controlling the disease involves both preventing bites and detecting and treating infections.
