DNA Day
April 25 · Level 4 · #1356 of 2238

DNA Day opens up the science of inheritance and the discoveries that made genetic information readable. It is a chance to explore the double helix and see why genome research matters outside the laboratory, too.
How it is celebrated: schools, universities and research centres host talks, quizzes and hands-on genetics activities. Participants build DNA models and discuss both the possibilities and the ethical questions raised by genetic research.
The occasion connects two milestones fifty years apart: the 1953 publication of the double-helix model and the completion of the Human Genome Project, announced in April 2003.
