World Veterinary Day
April 25 · Level 4 · #1447 of 2238
World Veterinary Day recognizes professionals whose care for animals also helps protect people. Their work reaches far beyond household pets, taking in farm animals, wildlife and the safety of the food supply.
How it is celebrated: veterinary associations and clinics organize public education events, share animal-care information and recognize colleagues' contributions. Some also arrange preventive-care campaigns and meetings with animal owners.
Veterinary medicine is central to One Health, an approach that connects human, animal and environmental health. Work carried out for an animal can therefore help prevent illness in people as well.
