World Cleanup Week
September 21 · Level 10 · #102 of 2238

World Cleanup Week is when volunteers all over the planet pull on gloves, grab bags and clear litter from parks, forests, riverbanks and beaches.
How it is celebrated: neighbours and colleagues organise clean-up days, sort what they find, mark illegal dumps on online maps, and schools and offices run sessions on making less waste.
The movement grew out of an Estonian action in 2008, when about 50,000 people cleaned up the country in just five hours. Other nations picked up the idea, and it turned into worldwide clean-up days and weeks.
