World Russian Unity Day
September 21 · Level 5 · #1276 of 2238
World Russian Unity Day is for Russian speakers scattered across the globe. It is a moment to remember that language, books and a shared past can keep people close, whatever the distance.
How it is celebrated: communities organise concerts, poetry evenings and get-togethers, and people online swap favourite verses and family stories in Russian.
The date matches Kulikovo Day in Russia: the Battle of Kulikovo took place in 1380 on 8 September in the old Julian calendar, which falls on 21 September today.
