December 17 · Level 10 · #15 of 2238
Strategic Missile Forces Day is the holiday of Russian servicemen who run the land-based part of the country's strategic nuclear deterrent.
How it is celebrated: units hold formal parades and award ceremonies, flowers are laid at memorials, and veterans meet young officers. Some garrisons also open their doors to visitors.
The Strategic Missile Forces were established as a separate branch of the armed forces on 17 December 1959, and that date is regarded as their birthday.
