Pan American Aviation Day
December 17 · Level 8 · #622 of 2238

Pan American Aviation Day falls on 17 December and recalls the first controlled, powered flight of a heavier-than-air machine. It is a nod to the pioneers who left the ground, and to everyone who keeps planes in the sky today.
How it is celebrated: aviation fans visit air museums and flying clubs, watch documentaries about early pilots, and kids fold paper planes or build small models to test on the nearest hallway.
The Wright brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk on 17 December 1903 lasted only 12 seconds and covered about 37 metres.
