Punch the Clock Day
January 27 · Level 5 · #1160 of 2238
A lighthearted day for an old workplace ritual: arrive, punch in, get to work. It is also a nice excuse to remember how people once learned to count working hours.
How it is celebrated: colleagues swap stories about their first jobs, joke about punch cards, and try very hard to arrive on time so the clock has nothing to say about them.
The mechanical time recorder was invented in 1888 by Willard Bundy, a jeweller from Auburn, New York. His company later became one of the businesses that merged into the firm that grew into IBM.
