Academy Awards Ceremony
March 15 · Level 10 · #115 of 2238
The Academy Awards celebrate achievement in filmmaking, from performances and directing to the crafts that shape what audiences see and hear. The annual ceremony brings filmmakers together to receive the statuettes better known as Oscars.
How it is celebrated: nominees arrive on the red carpet, presenters announce the winners and recipients deliver acceptance speeches. Viewers follow the broadcast, discuss the films and compare results with their predictions.
The first ceremony took place at a private dinner in a Hollywood hotel in 1929. The awards presentation lasted roughly fifteen minutes, a remarkably short beginning for today's hours-long television event.
