Belarus Constitution Day

Belarus Constitution Day marks the adoption of the country's constitution on 15 March 1994. The document sets out how the state is organised and defines citizens' rights and responsibilities, giving the occasion a place in civic education.

How it is celebrated: schools, libraries and public institutions host discussions and exhibitions. Young citizens also receive passports at special ceremonies held as part of the We Are Citizens of Belarus! initiative.

The original constitution was adopted by the Supreme Soviet, the country's parliament at the time. Referendums associated with its history came later and concerned amendments.
