Zimbabwe Independence Day
April 18 · Level 10 · #129 of 2238

Zimbabwe Independence Day marks the country's internationally recognized independence in 1980, following a long liberation struggle and negotiations. It commemorates the end of white-minority rule and the beginning of a new national chapter.
How it is celebrated: official ceremonies, parades, music and dance bring people together. Tributes recognize those who fought for independence, while sporting events also feature in the celebrations.
Bob Marley performed at the independence celebrations in 1980. He had already recorded Zimbabwe, a song supporting the country's liberation struggle, before travelling there to take part.
