World Amateur Radio Day

World Amateur Radio Day celebrates people who use radio to experiment, build equipment and make friends across borders. It also highlights the value of amateur communications when everyday networks are unavailable, including during emergencies.

How it is celebrated: operators get on the air, clubs welcome visitors and experienced enthusiasts introduce newcomers to radios and antennas. Making contact with somewhere new is part of the fun.

The occasion marks the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union in Paris in 1925. This hands-on technical hobby has an international organization with a century of history.
