World Circus Day
April 18 · Level 8 · #470 of 2238

World Circus Day celebrates an art built from extraordinary skill, comic timing and imagination. It gives audiences a chance to appreciate both the performers and the patient practice behind a seemingly impossible act.
How it is celebrated: circuses offer special shows, workshops and opportunities to meet artists. Visitors may try juggling or discover how performers learn the basics of their craft.
The familiar circular ring has equestrian roots. Philip Astley, the English horseman associated with the beginnings of modern circus in the eighteenth century, used a ring for his riding displays.
