Kite Festival in China
April 18 · Level 8 · #561 of 2238

China's kite festivals turn the sky into a gallery powered by the wind. The event in Weifang is especially well known, bringing traditional kite-making skills together with international competitions and imaginative modern designs.
How it is celebrated: makers launch their creations, display their craftsmanship and compete in organized events. Visitors watch dragons, birds and other figures take flight, while workshops introduce the techniques behind them.
A traditional dragon-centipede kite has a head followed by a chain of separate sections. Once airborne, those pieces become a long, flexible body: a sculpture that moves with the breeze.
