World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day celebrates travel as a way to connect people and cultures, while recognising its importance to local livelihoods. It puts both travellers and the people welcoming them in the picture, from guides to hotel teams.

How it is celebrated: tours, festivals and public discussions explore tourism and its effects. An annual theme focuses attention on issues such as making travel more accessible or protecting the places people visit.

The date commemorates the adoption of the World Tourism Organization’s statutes in 1970. The first World Tourism Day followed ten years later.
