World Thinking Day

This is a day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world to think of one another and of what binds them together. The date has a story: 22 February was the birthday of both the founder of Scouting and his wife.

How it is celebrated: troops hold meetings and games, work through a theme chosen for the year, swap letters and small gifts with groups abroad, and raise money for the world association's programmes.

Robert Baden-Powell (born 1857) and his wife Olave (born 1889) shared the same birthday, 22 February. The date was picked at an international Girl Guide and Girl Scout conference in the United States in 1926.
