George Washington's Birthday
February 22 · Level 5 · #1312 of 2238
George Washington's Birthday honours the first US president and his part in shaping the country. His birthday falls on February 22, while the federal holiday is observed on February's third Monday.
How it is celebrated: museums and historic homes offer special tours, activities and commemorative ceremonies. Schools explore Washington's life, the Revolutionary War and the early presidency, often alongside broader discussions of American presidents.
The federal holiday cannot land on Washington's actual birthday. A third Monday in February always falls between the 15th and the 21st.
