World Sepsis Day
September 13 · Level 8 · #534 of 2238

Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to infection in which the body's own defences start damaging its organs. World Sepsis Day teaches people to spot the warning signs and seek urgent medical help.
How it is celebrated: hospitals and medical societies hold talks and hand out information leaflets, and survivors and their families share their stories.
A major study published in The Lancet estimated that sepsis was linked to about 11 million deaths in 2017, roughly one in five deaths worldwide.
