Roald Dahl Day

September 13 · Level 6 · #970 of 2238

Roald Dahl Day falls on the birthday of the British author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and The BFG. It is a party for stories that have delighted children and grown-ups around the world.

How it is celebrated: schools and libraries hold read-aloud sessions and dress-up days, and fans invent their own wonderfully silly words in Dahl's style.

Dahl was born on 13 September 1916 in Llandaff, Cardiff, to Norwegian parents, and was named after the polar explorer Roald Amundsen.
