Programmer's Day in Russia

September 13 · Level 8 · #525 of 2238

Programmer's Day in Russia recognises the people who build and maintain software. Their work powers familiar apps, websites and digital services, with plenty of testing and patient problem-solving behind the scenes.

How it is celebrated: colleagues exchange congratulations, share a celebratory meal and organise quizzes or coding challenges. Binary numbers, familiar error messages and programming jokes often find their way onto cakes and gifts.

The holiday falls on the year's 256th day, matching the number of possible values in an eight-bit byte. That means September 13 in an ordinary year and September 12 in a leap year.
