World Football Day
May 25 · Level 10 · #43 of 2238

World Football Day is a United Nations observance celebrating the game's ability to bring people together across borders. It highlights accessible sport, teamwork and respect, with room for the neighbourhood kickabout as well as the international tournament.
How it is celebrated: communities arrange friendly matches, youth sessions and football gatherings, while promoting fair play and opportunities for everyone to participate. A ball and a few willing teammates can provide a simple way to join in.
The date recalls the start of the Paris Olympic football tournament on 25 May 1924, which brought together teams from all world regions. The UN established the observance a century later, in 2024.
