Baikal Seal Pup Day
May 25 · Level 1 · #2168 of 2238
Baikal Seal Pup Day is an environmental celebration focused on Lake Baikal's seals and their young. It invites people to learn about the lake's wildlife and connects affection for its animals with care for the habitat they depend on.
How it is celebrated: educational sessions, children's art displays and environmental activities introduce the seals to a wider audience. School groups and other participants learn about seal behaviour and help clean up lakeside areas.
Baikal seals spend their entire lives in fresh water. Their pups are born with fluffy white coats, which they later shed for darker fur—a striking change from their newborn appearance.
