Spring Bank Holiday
May 25 · Level 1 · #2143 of 2238

The Spring Bank Holiday gives people across the United Kingdom a long weekend near the end of May. It is a welcome pause before summer: time to catch up with friends, enjoy the outdoors or take a short break.
How it is celebrated: people head to the coast or countryside, visit parks and gardens, share picnics and attend local festivals. There is no set ceremony, so a quiet day at home fits perfectly well too.
Its predecessor was Whit Monday, the day after Pentecost. The holiday later moved away from the church calendar and usually falls on May's last Monday.
