World First Aid Day
September 12 · Level 10 · #135 of 2238

World First Aid Day is a reminder that saving a life doesn't always take a doctor: sometimes it takes whoever happens to be standing nearby. The aim is to teach as many people as possible what to do in the first minutes after an injury or sudden illness.
How it is celebrated: Red Cross and Red Crescent societies run open training sessions where anyone can practise chest compressions, stopping bleeding and bandaging a wound. Schools, workplaces and volunteer groups hold their own classes and demonstrations.
The date moves from year to year, because the day falls on the second Saturday of September.
