Tu BiShvat (New Year for Trees)

Tu BiShvat is the Jewish New Year for Trees, a calendar boundary used in religious rules concerning fruit harvests. It has also become an occasion to reflect on nature, growth and people's relationship with the land. It falls on the fifteenth day of the Hebrew month of Shevat.

How it is celebrated: people eat fruit and nuts, especially produce associated with the Land of Israel. Some hold a special seder meal, while tree planting is a familiar tradition in Israel.

The name contains its own date: “Tu” combines Hebrew letters with the numerical values nine and six, making fifteen.
