Sled Dog Day
February 2 · Level 4 · #1457 of 2238
Sled Dog Day celebrates the canine teammates that have carried supplies and helped people travel across snowy landscapes. It is a chance to appreciate northern traditions, sled sports and the care that working dogs need.
How it is celebrated: enthusiasts introduce newcomers to dogs and mushing, share stories from the trail and organise outings. Training, rest and animal welfare are part of the conversation.
In 1925, relay teams of sled dogs helped carry diphtheria antitoxin to Nome, Alaska. That famous rescue depended on many teams working together.
