The day after Christmas, when it is polite to thank people for their gifts. A short handwritten note can brighten someone's week more than a quick text.
How it is celebrated: people pick out cards or just a sheet of paper and write a few warm lines to family, friends and coworkers. A good note names the gift and says how it will be used.
26 December is a holiday in its own right in many countries: Boxing Day in the UK, St Stephen's Day in Ireland and the Second Day of Christmas in Germany.
