Save the Elephant Day
April 16 · Level 9 · #329 of 2238
This is a day to think about elephants and the dangers shrinking their numbers: poaching, loss of habitat and clashes with people. The aim is simple: get as many people as possible talking about it.
How it is celebrated: conservation groups and sanctuaries hold talks and fundraisers, schools run drawing and craft projects, and many people donate to protection programmes or choose to avoid ivory products.
In 2021 the International Union for Conservation of Nature listed the African savanna elephant as Endangered and the African forest elephant as Critically Endangered.
