President's Day in Tajikistan
November 16 · Level 5 · #1269 of 2238
President's Day in Tajikistan honours the office of head of state. Official observances focus on the country's independence and on Emomali Rahmon, whose presidential inauguration provides the anniversary behind the occasion.
How it is celebrated: cultural and educational institutions organise exhibitions, concerts, discussions and conferences about the presidency and the country's political history.
The date recalls Rahmon's presidential oath in 1994. He had already become Tajikistan's leader in 1992, initially as chairman of the Supreme Soviet, so the anniversary marks a change of office rather than the beginning of his leadership.
