International Day for Tolerance
November 16 · Level 1 · #2070 of 2238

The International Day for Tolerance promotes respect for human differences and a life free from discrimination. It asks how people with different languages, beliefs and traditions can share a society while enjoying equal rights.
How it is celebrated: schools, libraries and community organisations host discussions, exhibitions and intercultural meetings. Activities invite people to recognise prejudice and handle disagreement without demeaning others.
UNESCO's 1995 Declaration of Principles on Tolerance explicitly rejects the idea that tolerance means condescension or concession. It rests instead on recognising other people's rights and freedoms.
