International Jazz Day
April 30 · Level 10 · #208 of 2238

International Jazz Day celebrates music built on both individual expression and close listening. Established by UNESCO, it highlights jazz as a meeting place for cultures and a way to encourage dialogue and creative freedom.
How it is celebrated: musicians give concerts, hold jam sessions and lead workshops and open lessons. Clubs, schools and public spaces host performances, while broadcasts let audiences join the celebration from home.
Pianist Herbie Hancock helped bring the idea to life. UNESCO established the observance in 2011, and the first International Jazz Day celebrations followed the next year.
