Russian Fire Service Day
April 30 · Level 10 · #74 of 2238
Russian Fire Service Day honours the people who fight fires, rescue those in danger and help prevent emergencies. Professional firefighters and volunteers share the spotlight, along with the preparation and teamwork their duties demand.
How it is celebrated: fire stations hold ceremonies and present awards. Public events feature vehicles, equipment displays and demonstrations, giving visitors a closer look at firefighting work and a chance to learn fire prevention basics.
The date's historical reference is a 1649 decree on urban order. It provided for fire supervision in Moscow centuries before motorised fire engines became part of the city's streets.
