Goku Day
May 9 · Level 10 · #78 of 2238
Goku Day is a fan celebration of Son Goku, the hero of Dragon Ball. The date is a pun: in Japanese, 5 and 9 can be read as "go" and "ku".
How it is celebrated: fans rewatch favourite episodes, share drawings and memes, put on orange gi costumes and throw themed parties. Shops and streaming services often add special offers for the occasion.
Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga began running in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, and Goku has been winning fans around the world ever since.
